I came in from the coast and traveled the scenic Umpqua River, passing Mt. McLaughlin on the way to La Pine. I added a side trip up to the top of Hart Mountain and enjoyed the hot springs there. Saw many antelope. Returned on 140 west and then up to Roseburg and back thru the Umpqua to the coast. Great ride of 1,175 miles round trip back to Lincoln City.
I enjoyed this ride. It´s interesting to note how the environment changes from ponderosa pine to desert sage. I camped at Summer Lake Hot Springs which was great. A good hot spring soak refreshed me for the next day´s ride. Also a great breakfast at the Paisley Saloon. Next time I might try venturing above Summer Lake on the Abert Rim.
Very remote in places with interesting geological features to see.Summer lake and Fort Rock (a short diversion), two of the highlights.
Halfway down Hart Mountain. Miles of gravel. Note valley in background
