For a major trunk road, this is about as fun as it gets! However, a few caveats: In summer, its often jammed with slow moving cars dragging sheds. Sunny weekends attract a special class of suicidal lunatic - the knee down round blind corner nutter - who then throws himself (usually a him) into the scenery or other road users with monotonous regularity, closing the road for hours at a time while he is scraped up and measurements taken for the inquest. Said nutters have attracted a fan club, who can be spotted thanks to theor flourescent jackets, flashing blue lights and laser guns, making weekends a bad time to ride this road. In addition, another kind of fan of the sunny sunday chuck it at the scenery crowd has chosen to show his or her devotion by painting miles of double white line, some of it in frustrating places. If you need to get to West Wales its a fun way to do so, but personally I wouldn make a special trip!
A lovely part of the world but not without its hazzards. Tractors and other farm vehicles, contaminated road surface due to said vehicles, lots of cars, lorries etc. Plenty of police to keep your speed down, but, saying all that, its still a great stretch of road in either direction and plenty of enjoyment can be had. Big bike stops dotted all around this area - Abergavenny, West End cafe at Llandovery, Terrys on the Beacons, all good bike haunts. Cymru Am Byth. (thats Wales Forever for you non Welsh speakers:) I filmed from Brecon to Abergavenny but lost most of the footage which includes some of the best bits of this road. Ill try again one day and see if I can put some nice footage together. Please enjoy this little snippet.
Coffee at Llandovery then a blast to Brecon on a nice stretch of fast road with some lovely corners. No better waste of time on a Sunday morning
A classic biker A road. Can be a little overused by bikers, some of whom can take things a bit far. However a lovely stretch of road, we worth it. A word of warning though; ofetn used by car drivers, who have forgotten that overtaking ocurs on roads other tahn motorways!
A40 to Brecon - again good twistys all the way - dont get distracted by the scenery! Enjoy!! Can be easily combined with the A4042 from Cwmbran
Good road with spectacular views of the Beacons. Good place to meet lots of bikers. However, it gets even better by turning either north or south through the mountains. Try a combination of the A479 / A470, B4520, or A483 to Builth Wells to create a circuit.
A nice, open, old-fashioned 'A' road. Can get busy but plenty of passing places.
i done this one afew times and really enjoyed everytime
I did this route over the weekend, very nice!
Watch out for the police on this road as some bikers have gone completely over the top on this bit of road... Nice route though, I have a brother not five miles off of this route...
Lots of open corners with good visibility on this stretch. Be aware of some Police presence, even sometimes from the air.
