Summer 2020. Asphalt is very good, small hills with corners over them so a lot of blind corners where you don't see where road goes over the hill. Bit scary if you're going fast. Will return one day definitely!
The old Postal Road. The map marks the first section, and by far the most interesting bit is the start, near the border of Tartu and Põlva counties, but the road goes on all the way to Võru and used to serve as the old postal stage coach road between Võru and Tartu. Further along the road is the Estonian Freeway Museum, which shows a history of roadbuilding in Estonia and some interesting vehicles, including old Soviet cars and garage-built customs. The road is used as a rally special stage, but its public most of the year; except for a couple of museums and tiny villages, theres nothing on it (its mostly preserved for historical purposes, since theres a nice new freeway between Tartu and Võru). Traffic is usually light, but what there is, can be expected to drive aggressively and sometimes take blind corners down the center; be on the lookout for the occasional timber-carrying lorry.
