A great route, though going in the opposite direction up the llanberis pass isn't as good as the road is a little rough and bumpy on that side of the road.
ashleyphotogGood route, as stated. After and approaching Llanrug it becomes very built up and lots of houses, which slows things down.
Llanberis is where the moutain railway up Mt Snowdon starts so gets very busy in the summer.
The section south of Llanberis is the better section.
Caernarfon on the coast and at end of this route if you keep heading North West is an interesting town with a very interesting castle which is well worth going in.
Worth the journey just for the sight of Llanberis (friend happy Dafyd lives there) and an awesome road in the right weather but good weather is the drawback in North Wales - it brings out swarms of motorhomes etc which can be a real pain on narrow roads. Visibility not a problem here and you can get some decent speed up on the bottom section.
GazWhy not do the Full Monty circular tour? Down the Llanberis Pass, then track NE through Deiniolen to come back up the A5 through the Ogwen Valley. Not too much to get excited about these days in terms of outright scratching potential, with bizzies, caravans, general traffic etc. Early (very early) morning or late evening in Summer would be good. Prob not Sundays though! However the scenery is beyond reproach, as are some of the photographic stop offs. Worth being a bit slower to drink in the atmosphere, maybe watch the climbers down the Llanberis Pass, and you might find some fast jets popping over from RAF Valley if you're really lucky. Sunsets down over Anglesey can be quite spectacular too.
petespectacular scenery very touristy in the summer months as stated before watch out for myopic muppets in campervans an caravans.....
critchFast sweeping route with great views but can be quite touristy at the wrong time.
