Very nice part of the highland route that forms part of the NC500 tourist route. Enjoyed this this section a lot!
Journeyed this road for the first time on my trip round Scotland this week. WHAT A ROUTE. This has got to be one of the most spectacular sectionsof roads I have ever experienced. It starts of your typical A class road, (A837) up to approx 10 miles before Lochinver where you turn right onto the North road,(A894), This is where you start to climb up and up and up the first of many mountin sections. As soon as you reach the top the exceptional beauty of the whole area can only cause you to shout loudly from within your lid a muffled HOLY *$!T. You have to be excused this as you will do this involitarily. Just remember to stay alert as the beauty of the whole area causes some car and caravan drivers to stop unexpectedly. Enjoy and safe riding.
This route is excellent. Consider continuing on the A368 to Tongue, feels a bit like Royston Vasey, but the views are great. The campsites are a bit primitive, but an excellent place to explore. Keep an eye for mad Dutchmen in campervans.
I cannot make personal comment as I have not done this road. However, looking at these stunning images I shall make a promise to myself to get up there later this summer and review it properly. This sort of write up/report is what this site is all about. Thanks for that knowledge.
A stunning road that is very open and little traffic if you go before the second week in July before the tourists arrive in numbers. It has it all, very fast open stretches with sections that has corner after corner that you can see through, there are one or two that will catch you out so beware. The road is that blinding that you need to go back and do it again to take in the scenery at a more sedate pace.
